Helping Hands

This week we started our classroom jobs!
Our jobs are line leader, caboose, door holder, greeter, substitutes, messengers, center checker, librarians, germ buster, paper passer, paper collector, technology monitors, light monitor, and trash monitors.
We will change jobs every two weeks so every one will get the chance to try every job.

August Birthdays

This month we celebrated Nico and Landon's birthdays! They both brought in their favorite book
to share with the class!

Watermelon Science

We were scientists this week as we investigated a watermelon. We gathered data and made observations. We asked questions: How many linking cubes tall is the watermelon? Does it sink or float? We labeled parts of a watermelon.

When we came back from recess on Friday our watermelon was MISSING! Ms. Marta found a clue to help us find our watermelon. We found clues all around school. We traveled to the bathroom, art room, Mrs. Cobb's office, library, chapel, cafeteria, front office, gymnasium, Mrs. Harrison's office, CLS (technology room), and we finally found our watermelon in Mrs. Helwig's office. We were so happy to finally find the watermelon because then we got to go outside and eat it for a yummy afternoon snack!

Jitter Juice

Have you heard of Jitter Juice?
It's magic and it's yummy!
It makes the butterflies fly away,
right out of my tummy!

The bubbles in this silly juice
will help you not to worry.
So grab a cup and drink it up!
Hurry! Hurry! Hurry!

On the first day of school, we read First Day Jitters by Julie Danneberg. After reading the story, we went outside and made our very own Jitter Juice to get rid of all of our first day jitters! Ask your child what the "magical" ingredients were and if they enjoyed the juice or not. We also got to share our Jitter Juice with our assistant principal, Mrs. Cobb.

Welcome Back

Dear Room 104 Parents,

Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year! My name is Erin Kelly and I am going to be your child’s first grade teacher this year. I am so excited that your child is going to be in my class!

Let me first start by sharing some information about myself. I attended St. Mary Magdalen Catholic School and Bishop Moore Catholic High School. I graduated from the University of Central Florida and I’m looking forward to starting my teaching career at St. James Cathedral School. Some activities I enjoy doing outside of school are exercising, fishing, reading, and traveling.

The children in Room 104 will be given a positive, engaging, and loving environment where they can grow academically and spiritually. I will strive each day to make learning a fun and enriching process for your child. However, I also believe that you and I are a team working together to help your child develop throughout the year.

Communication is very important, so please feel free to contact me at school or email me (erin.kelly@stjcs.com) and I will get back with you as soon as I am able. I will be happy to schedule a telephone conference or meet with you at school to discuss any questions or concerns.

I am looking forward to the privilege of working with your child and you! We are going to have a wonderful year!

Miss Kelly
